The Nigerian Army has formally activated the 28 Armoured Brigade and Garrison in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, in a move aimed at reinforcing security operations and improving the military’s capacity to respond rapidly to emerging threats across the state and the wider North-West region.

The activation is part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Army to strengthen its operational presence in areas facing security challenges, while enhancing coordination among military formations and other security agencies.

Based in Birnin Kebbi, the new formation is expected to provide additional operational capacity for troops deployed in Kebbi and neighbouring areas. 

Its establishment is also intended to improve the Army’s ability to respond to security incidents, support ongoing operations and protect communities, critical infrastructure and other strategic locations.

The North-West has continued to face a range of security challenges, including armed banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities. The deployment of additional military structures is therefore expected to facilitate faster mobilisation and a more coordinated response to threats within the region.

The activation of the 28 Armoured Brigade also underscores the Army’s broader effort to reposition its formations in response to changing security requirements and improve operational effectiveness.

Authorities are expected to provide further details on the brigade’s mandate, area of responsibility and operational deployment as activities under the new formation progress.

The development comes as security agencies continue efforts to restore stability and strengthen the protection of lives and property across Kebbi State and other parts of the North-West.
